Working in security

If you wish to perform duties as a Security Officer, Crowd Controller or Bodyguard in Victoria, you must have a Security Licence. You must have completed the necessary training requirements set down by the Queensland Officer of Fair Trading.


Eligibility for Registration:


• You are eligible to be registered if you meet the following criteria:
• be 18 years or older
• have no recorded conviction of a disqualifying offence within the previous 10 years
• have no unrecorded finding of guilt of a disqualifying offence in the previous 5 years
• not be considered a risk to public safety
• have successfully completed the training

When applying for your Security Licence you must provide the following information with your application:


• meet the eligibility criteria
• complete the training requirements and attach proof of qualifications
• complete the Security Providers Form 1-1 Application for a security provider class 1 individual licence
• provide originals or certified copies of certain identification documents including but not limited to; your birth certificate or extract, passport, Australian citizenship certificate and driver’s licence
• pay the appropriate licence fee (fees are listed on the application form)
• pay the criminal history check fee - $39.00
• pay the fingerprinting fee - $100.00
• lodge the application (lodgement details are listed on the application form)

Training is not restricted to security or guarding work. The HSS Security Training Academy also has the ability to develop training programs across many areas for personnel not associated with the security sector, such as concierge services.
